Books I Read In 2021
Hello, my dears,
This is my first 2022 blog post (and first blog post in ages), welcome back!
Today, I wanted to talk about the books that I read in 2021. I set a goal to read at least five books… and guess what, I did!!!
The five books that I read are:
Where the crawdads sing by Delia Owens
The Summer I turned Pretty by Jenny Han
It’s not Summer without You by Jenny Jan
You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle
The Therapist by BA Paris
Where the Crawdads sing- Delia Owens
Let’s start talking about this book! It was my first book of 2021. I got it as a Christmas present in 2020.
This is a mystery romance novel that is very addicting and drags you in. You are kept on your toes, trying to figure out who did it while navigating through the rough life of the main character- Kya Clark.
I loved how we got to see the beginning of Kya’a story and see how she meets the other characters that play a role in her life - Chase Andrews and Tate Walker.
While also getting an insight into what was happening in the present. It was a nice and smooth jump between times, which kept the reader entertained. The only thing is, I wasn’t happy with the ending, it was a good ending don’t get me wrong but it wouldn’t be my ideal ending.
I’ve been wanting to read this book for ages, after seeing it being recommended by Reese Witherspoon in her book club after I finally got the book I kept reading it all the time as I couldn’t put it down, and was always very eager to always get back to it!
I recommend this book to everyone and if you haven’t read it, add it to your reading list for 2022! I love romance fiction books, but this book was a good mix of romance and mystery, which made me want to read more mystery books.
This book is also being made into a movie that will be released in 2022, I can not wait to see it, hoping it will be just as good.
The summer I turned pretty- Jenny Han
One of my favourite books is the “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” series by Jenny Han, so I decided to read her other books.
The Summer I turned pretty is part of a series as well, this is the first book of the trilogy.
This book is a cute, romance story following Belly and her summer with her friends Jeremiah and Conrad. They have been friends from before they were born and grew up together every summer and now everything changes, feelings that were always there come to light, and some new feelings are developed.
I was comparing this book to “to all the boys” which is bad, I know, you shouldn’t compare books to each other but I couldn’t help! I do prefer “to all the boys” more, the way it was written and the storyline I liked better but I still really enjoyed reading the summer I turned pretty and couldn’t put the book down in some parts, I’d just binge read as much as possible.
It’s not summer without you- Jenny Han
This is the second book in the “summer I turned pretty” trilogy. I did enjoy it, but I’d say I preferred the first book more. There were moments where Belly would annoy me with her actions, but I guess that is good for Jenny, as she can make her readers feel emotions through her writing, even if it is annoyance towards a character :).
The story still focuses on the life of Belly and Conrad and Jeremiah, we get chapters from all of their perspectives which I enjoyed. I personally love books with time jumps or different perspectives so we get the whole story.
The third book is “we’ll always have summer”, which I am currently in the middle of reading it.
I did enjoy these two books, and I’d recommend it if you want a nice read especially during summer, however, be aware that there are some deep topics in it which I can’t mention here without risking spoiling anything.
Also, this is being made into a series as well, so can’t wait to watch that and see how they bring the characters to life especially after the success of “to all the boys”
You deserve each other- Sarah Hogle
This was my first kindle book ever. I always loved and still do, a traditional book but in 2021, I tried eBooks and did enjoy them. They were great for times where you were waiting around and had to pass time, just pop out your kindle (or phone with the app) and read the book.
The book itself was good, it did take me a while to get into it (might be because it was an ebook) but once I got into it, I finished it quite fast. I’ll be honest, it was mainly a book I used for reading when I had to pass time in public but I did enjoy it.
This story is about an engaged couple, Naomi and Nicholas. I liked this book because it was more realistic showing how couples have ups and downs in their relationship, and there wasn’t any exaggerated dramatic event like in some books where it breaks a couple up.
Some characters did annoy me, but they were written that way, like a pain in the bottom for the main character so the author did very well with that.
I would recommend this book for anyone who was an easy read because it was a good book especially towards the middle leading to the end.
The Therapist - BA Paris
This is my first psychological thriller book and the second kindle book I read.
I was addicted to this book! I did start it a few times but once I did I couldn’t put it down. I was kept on my toes, and kept having my suspicions about who did it!
The book follows Alice who tries to solve a murder mystery that happened in the estate that her boyfriend Leo and she just moved into.
I genuinely didn’t know who did it and didn’t expect it until the last few pages of the reveal, but my mind was blown when I found out. It all made sense yet I didn’t see it coming.
I would say, I am not the biggest fan of the ending but if I could reread the book for the first time again, I definitely would.
If you enjoy thrillers, this is the book for you! Even if you don’t, but want to try a thriller book, try this one!
A big thing I liked bout the kindle app, is that I could download a sample of books and give them a read, and then if I like it I could buy it (one of them was The Therapist). I ended up reading a few samples of the following books:
The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary and
The Single Girl’s To-Do List by Lindsey Kelk
I enjoyed reading the samples of these books, so I will be buying the whole book to finish them.
So this is my little rant about the books I read during 2021, hope you enjoyed it.
I’d love to hear from you now, so, do you like reading books? If so, what books have you read this year?
Yours Truly,
E
